Why Manusmriti is an abused Scripture ?

The status, treatment and role of a woman in any society come from the roots of its civilization. Shastra states that the phenomenal world is dualistic. There are two principles in the creation of universe itself. There are principles underlying our entire philosophy which are seen as the essence and the manifestation, root and the spreading. These two principles are inseparable and complementary.

Essentially, both are similar and are two aspects of the reality. Thus if principle of existence is seen as male, then principle of creation, pervasion is the female principle (the Siva-Sakti symbolism). They are inseparable like a seed and the tree, word and its meaning, energy and it’s potential to work. These two qualities are represented by two colors, white and black. The former symbolises pure existence and the latter pervasiveness. In fact, its said that the entire universe is a play of the duals – consciousness and energy. Also,  at different levels duality governs the entire creation – eternal-phenomenal, manifest-unmanifest, mass-energy, life-non life, male-female.

Manu-smriti, (Sanskrit: “Laws of Manu” or “The Remembered Tradition of Manu”) also called Manava-dharma-shastra (“The Dharma Text of Manu”), traditionally the most authoritative of the books of the Hindu code (Dharma-shastra) in India. Manu-smriti is the popular name of the work, which is officially known as Manava-dharma-shastra. It is attributed to the legendary first man and lawgiver, Manu. Today, Manu Smriti is a smeared and an abused scripture. It is considered as violent and discriminatory and is often accused of being biased against women.

The Constitution gave a women, the Right to Property and what did religion give us?

Ladies, your place in the hierarchy is preordained. As said by Manu:

In childhood, a female must be subject to her father, in youth to her husband, when her lord is dead to her sons; a woman must never be independent. (Manu IV. 148)

Day and night women must be kept in dependence by males (of their families), and, if they attach themselves to sexual enjoyments, they must be kept under one’s control. (Manu XI2).

Food offered and served to Brahman after Shradh ritual should not be seen by a chandal, a pig, a cock, a dog, and a menstruating woman. (Manu 3/240)

She who shows disrespect to her husband who is addicted to (some evil) passion, who is a drunkard or diseased, (she) shall be deserted for three months (and be) deprived of her ornaments and furniture.
(Manu, 4-78)

Obviously, it means that a menstruating woman is impure and sinful. But people performing heinous crimes (rapists) are humans’ after all  !!

Men may be lacking virtue, be sexual perverts, immoral and devoid of any good qualities, and yet women must constantly worship and serve their husbands. (Manu 5/157)

A wife, a son and a slave, they three are declared to have no property: the wealth which they earn is (acquired) for him to whom they belong. (Manu VIII. 416)

Men will be men. Women must be SATI SAVITRIS!

Women have no right to study the Vedas. That is why their Sanskars are performed without Veda Mantras. Women have no knowledge of religion because they have no right to know the Vedas. The uttering of Veda Mantras, they are as unclean as untruth is.” (Manu IX. 18)

No women should recite mantras, no women should worship. Because as per Manusmriti, women are a just biological creatures responsible for the offspring.

A wife, a son and a slave, they three are declared to have no property: the wealth which they earn is (acquired) for him to whom they belong. (Manu VIII. 416)

Your hard earned money will never be yours. It’ll always belong to the person you marry. There exists no point of working hard, as you’ll never be recognized for your deeds.

Because of their passion for men, immutable temper and natural heartlessness, they are not loyal to their husbands. (Manu 9/15)

That’s why we hear news of men being raped and assaulted by a woman, since our Vedic ages.

In case of any problem in performing religious rites, males between the age of 24 and 30 should marry a female between the age of 8 and 12. ( Manu  9/93)

Women have been laid down as baits ever since!

This is the land where women are worshipped  and tormented at the same time, this is the land where women are idolised and treated as objects at the same time. This is the land of sufferings and cruelty. This is the land of HYPOCRISY. Manusmriti, as a scripture should not be worshipped or promoted in any way.
